Circular Pentagons

More experimenting with the Magic Loop technique, there were no actual instructions for this, so I modified the ones for the square.

I’ve written the instructions for each round for each needle, I’m sure it makes sense!

Pentagon

1st Round: Cast on 10 sts, divide between the two needles using the Magic Loop method.
2nd Round: Knit
3rd Round: Inc in each st around. (20 sts)
4th Round: Knit.
5th Round: (1st needle) Inc, K2, inc, inc, K2, inc, inc, K1 (2nd needle) K1, inc, inc, K2, inc, inc, K2, inc.
6th Round: Knit.
7th Round: (1st needle) Inc, K4, inc, inc, K4, inc, inc, K2 (2nd needle) K2, inc, inc, K4, inc, inc, K4, inc.
8th Round: Knit.
9th Round: (1st needle) Inc, K6, inc, inc, K6, inc, inc, K3 (2nd needle) K3, inc, inc, K6, inc, inc, K6, inc.
10th Round: Knit.
11th Round: (1st needle) Inc, K8, inc, inc, K8, inc, inc, K4 (2nd needle) K4, inc, inc, K8, inc, inc, K8, inc.
12th Round: Knit.
13th Round: (1st needle) Inc, K10, inc, inc, K10, inc, inc, K5 (2nd needle) K5, inc, inc, K10, inc, inc, K10, inc.
14th Round: Knit.

Continue increasing as above on next and every alternate round, noting that there will be 2 more sts in the main increase, and 1 more st at the end & beginning of each needle. Cast off loosely after an increase round.

Kira’s Motif

American Crochet Terms used throughout.

Materials:
DK weight yarn
4.00mm hook

Finished Size:
Approximately 6″/15cm across at the widest point

Abbreviations:
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sk – skip
st(s) – stitch(es)
mc – magic circle
yo – yarn over
beg – beginning
3dctog – crochet 3 dc together (work a dc without completing the last step 3 times, then yo and draw through all the loops)
FPdc – Yo and insert hook from the front to the back around the post of the dc on the previous row. Complete as for regular dc.

Foundation Round: Into mc, 3ch, (counts as 1dc), 14dc, sl st in top of beg ch to join.

Round 1: 4ch, (counts as 1dc, 1ch), *1dc, 1ch* repeat from * to * 13 more times, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch to join.

Round 2: Sl st into 1ch space, 6ch (counts as 1dc, 3ch), *sk 1 dc, 4dc in next dc, 3ch, sk 1 dc, 1dc in 1ch space, 3ch* repeat from * to * 3 more times, sk 1 dc, 4dc in next dc, 3ch, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch to join.

Round 3: 1FPdc around ch in previous row, 3ch, 3ch, *2dc in next dc, 2dc, 2dc in next dc, 3ch, 1FPdc in dc, 3ch* repeat from * to * 3 more times, 2dc in next dc, 2dc, 2dc in next dc, 3ch, sl st in 1st FPdc to join.

Round 4: 1FPdc, 3ch, *1dc in 3ch space, 3ch, [work a 3dctog over next 3 dc, 3ch] twice, 1dc in 3ch space, 3ch, 1FPdc in dc, 3ch* repeat from * to * 3 more times, 1dc in 3ch space, 3ch, [work a 3dctog over next 3 dc, 3ch] twice, 1dc in 3ch space, 3ch, sl st in 1st FPdc to join.

Round 5: Sl st into 3ch space, 3ch (counts as 1dc), 2hdc in same space, *3hdc in each of next 3 3ch spaces, [2hdc, 1dc, 3ch] in next 3ch space, [1dc, 2hdc] in next 3ch space* repeat from * to * 3 more times, 3hdc in each of next 3 3ch spaces, [2hdc, 1dc, 3ch] in next 3ch space, sl st in top of beg ch to join.

Round 6: 1ch, 1sc in same place, 1sc in each st around working 3sc in each 3ch space, sl st in 1st sc to join.

Fasten off, sew in ends.
