The Curious Case of the Disappearing Motifs

Back in January 2015 I had a design frenzy, the only problem was, I had no idea what to call the patterns. As they were all generally motifs, I decided to give them girls names, from A to Z. I got to L before my crochet mojo left the building. I now realise that the last ones will never be designed and its been holding me back.

So I could either delete the patterns…or re-crochet and rename them, and that is what I’m in the middle of doing. So apologies if I cause any confusion in the process, but I shall do further posts as I progress detailing what the motifs were and what they have been renamed. Assuming of course I don’t lose my mojo again, it’s such a fragile thing and needs long vacations in Tahiti…which I believe is a magical place…according to Phil Coulson…anyway back to crocheting!

Amelia’s Motif is now Vintage Star Doily.

Bella’s Border Motif is now Gerbera Lace Border.

Caroline’s Granny Square Motif is now Cotton Candy Granny Square.

Imogen’s Motif is now Barleycorn Motif.

Butterfly Cluster Square

Pattern rewritten June 2017

Butterfly Cluster Square

I started experimenting with clusters when I designed the Flower Basket/Coaster. I haven’t yet found a pattern stitch to attribute a name to it, so for this design I’ve called it a Butterfly Cluster, which I think is fairly descriptive!

Grrrr-anny Squares

I can usually crochet granny squares with my eyes closed I’ve made that many of them, but not today.

I’m working on some mini squares for a project, based on hdc’s, for some reason I can’t stop at hdc, they keep morphing into full-blooded dc’s. Finally after a few choice words, I made my first squares and chose to use the ‘join as you go’ method, it was only after I’d finished the first couple I realised I’d done the sc into the first corner, but not the 1 ch before completing the corner on the second square.

Somedays I am convinced that certain projects do not want to be made, maybe it wouldn’t hurt me to stop for just one day, who am I trying to fool, me stop, never!
