Knitted Christmas Bell

There are a lot of patterns for bells on the interwebs, but I wasn’t happy with the way they gathered at the top, so using short rows, I created my own pattern.

The yarn I used is King Cole Glitz DK 1698 Christmas Acrylic Festive Knitting Wool, yes I know I’m allergic to acrylic, but it is premium acrylic, so my adverse reaction shouldn’t be so extreme! I used 3.5mm needles, the finished bell measures approximately 2.5″/6cm high, though it depends on the roll at the bottom. And so to the pattern…

Cast on 20 stitches.

Row 1: knit
Row 2: p5, k13, turn
Row 3: knit
Row 4: p5, k11, turn
Row 5: knit
Row 6: p5, k9, turn
Row 7: knit
Row 8: p5, k15, turn

Repeat rows 1 – 8 six more times, cast off leaving a long tail and sew up the side seam, then turn the bell inside out, run a few stitches around the top to gather together, turn right side out and make a chain to hang the bell. The purl section will roll itself, but give it an extra roll if you wish! Sew in any loose ends. It’s a quick and easy pattern, if you want the bell rounder, just work another repeat.

Remember that many other yarn options are available, I had a moment of weakness, saw glitzy yarn, had to buy it! Enjoy 🙂

    1. Aww thank you, you’re so very welcome 🙂 I haven’t used a knitting machine in years, I had a flat bed and a v-bed machine, but never made anything more exciting than lengths of fabric!
