Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

I often sit with a ball of yarn and a hook and just crochet, letting the hook work its magic and seeing if a design emerges, this is what the Crochet Goddess blessed me with yesterday…a star 🙂

It’s two stars sewn together with tin foil inbetween to give it some sparkle, which isn’t easy to capture in a picture, but believe me, it sparkles! You could also use coloured clear film which would give a stained glass effect when hung in a window.

Here’s the pattern, it’s very simple, I used DK weight yarn with a 4.00mm hook, the star measures approximately 4″/10cm across. American Terminology used throughout.

Abbreviations:
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sk – skip
st(s) – stitch(es)

Foundation Round: Ch 16, sl st in 1st ch, ch 4 (counts as 1 dc, ch 1), *1 dc, ch 1 in next st* 15 times, sl st in 3rd ch to join.

Round 1: Sl st in 1st ch 1 space, *(1 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc) in next ch 1 space, sl st in next ch 1 space* 8 times, (1 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc) in next ch 1 space, sl st in 1st sl st to join.

Round 2: *Ch 1, (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in hdc ch 2 space, ch 1, sl st in sl st* 8 times, with last sl st in 1st sl st to join.

Round 3: Sl st in 1st ch 1 space, (2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc) in dc ch 3 space, sl st in ch 1 space, sk sl st, sl st in next ch 1 space* 8 times, finishing with last sl st in 1st sl st to join. Fasten off. (On second star leave enough yarn to sew both stars together.)

Finishing

Fold a piece of tinfoil in half so you have two shiny sides outermost, trace around the outline of the star, cut out the tinfoil, sandwich between the two stars and sew around the edge through the innermost loops of the sc’s and chains. Leave enough starting and finishing yarn to hang the star.

Enjoy 🙂
