Gerbera Lace Border

American Crochet Terms used throughout

Materials:
DK weight yarn in 2 colours
4.00mm hook

Finished Size:
Each motif measures approximately 1.5”/4cm in diameter, total height approximately 2.5”/6.5cm, length is as long as required

Abbreviations:
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble
sl st – slip stitch
sk – skip
st(s) – stitch(es)
mc – magic circle
beg – beginning
yo – yarn over
BLO – back loop only
EXsc – extended single crochet (pull up a loop in next stitch, yo, pull through 1 loop on hook, yo, pull though final 2 loops on hook.)
EXsc Tuft – Work 4 EXsc into stitch, remove hook from loop and insert in first stitch, pull loop through to form tuft.
2trtog – treble crochet 2 sts together (Work a tr in the next space without completing the very last step (leave the last two loops on the hook), tr in the next space without completing the last step. You should have three loops on the hook, yo and draw through all the loops.)
picot – 3ch, 1sc in 3rd ch, 1ch

First Motif

Foundation Round: Using Colour A, into mc, 1ch, 6sc, join with sl st into 1st sc. (6 sts)

Round 1: 1ch, 2sc in same space, 2sc in each st around, join with sl st into BLO of 1st sc. (12 sts)

Round 2: Working in BLO, 1ch, 1sc in same place, 1sc in each st around, join with sl st in 1st sc to join, changing colour to Colour B. (12 sts)

Round 3: Using Colour B, 2ch (counts as 1 EXsc), 3 EXsc in same space, remove hook and insert into top of 2ch, pick up loop and pull through, (1 EXsc tuft formed), 3ch *1 EXsc tuft, 3ch* around, join with sl st into top of 1st tuft to join. (12 tufts, 12 3ch spaces) Fasten off.

For the following motifs, work as for First Motif until the end of Round 2, then continue as follows, ensuring that each motif lines up with the previous one:

Round 3: Using Colour B, 2ch (counts as 1 EXsc), 3 EXsc in same space, remove hook and insert into top of 2ch, pick up loop and pull through, (1 EXsc tuft formed), [1ch, 1sc into 3ch space on previous motif, 1ch, 1 EXsc tuft in next stitch on current motif] twice, 3ch, *1 EXsc tuft, 3ch* around, join with sl st into top of 1st tuft to join. (12 tufts, 12 ch 3 spaces) Fasten off.

Repeat until desired length of border is required. Fasten off, sew in ends.

Top Border

Using Colour A, with right side facing, join yarn into the first 3ch space on the right, that is the 4th space from the point where the motifs join.

Row 1: Using Colour A, 4ch (counts as 1dc, 1ch), [1dc in next 3ch space, ch 1] 3 times, *2trtog (worked over current and next motifs where joined), [1ch, 1dc in next 3ch space] 4 times, 1ch* repeat from * to * across border, turn.

Row 2: Sl st into 1st 1ch space, [1ch, 1sc] in same space, *1 picot, 1sc in next 1ch space* across border, 1sc in 3rd ch of starting ch, 1ch.

Row 3: 1sc in 1st st, *2ch, sk picot, 1sc in next st* repeat from * to * across border, 1sc in last st, 1ch.

Row 4: 1sc in 1st st, 2sc in 2ch space, *sk next st, 2sc in 2ch space* repeat from * to * across border, 1sc in last stitch, change to Colour B, ch1.

Row 5: Using Colour B, 1sc in each st across border.

Row 6: Sl st in each st across border.

Fasten off. Sew in ends.
